School Concerts January 27th 2006 - KL Performing Art Centre

The musical “ My Fair Lady ” an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s

“Pygmalion” and staged by the Mutiara International Grammar School at

the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, on Friday 27th January 2006

turned out to be an exciting and entertaining evening of drama, song and dance.

Among the distinguished guests was the Crown Princess of Pahang –

Kebawah Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Hajjah

Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, DK,

DK (Johor, SPMJ)

The leading players, Jeihan Lee Yahya as Professor Higgins, Poomabai

Belinda Kimis as Eliza Doolittle, and Avery Raassen as Colonel

Pickering, gave sterling performances. The role of Alfred Doolittle was

played by Haziq Hamid, with Alief Abdullah and Adam McKenna playing

the roles of Jaime and Harry respectively, while Tun Putera Mohammad

Abu Bakar and Vijay Pandian performed with both the choir and cast in

key roles.

In addition to the acting, which was of a very high standard, bearing in

mind that most of the cast is below sixteen years of age, the actors and

actresses actually sang the songs with gusto and flair. They included

“Why can’t the English”   “Wouldn’t it be Lovely”,  “I’m an ordinary Man”,

“I could have danced all Night” and “ On the Street where you live”.

The School Choir presented a repertoire of songs from the musical

before the commencement of the play while Emily Cheah entertained

arriving guests with a classical piano performance.

This successful performance highlighted the energy, talent and

commitment of the Mutiara School community. The team effort, attention

to detail and quality of performance marked this evening as an example

of what can be achieved when a school focuses on more than just

academic results.
