ECA DRUMZ
|
In this action packed, noisy, fun activity class students have gone right from the very basics on how to correctly hold a drum stick and the relating technique such as wrist posture, to playing in a rock band. The early weeks’ see students move steadily through basic rock beats and drum fills learning variations as we worked through the music. Soon students find themselves reading drum notation on a drum score with the various styles of rock drumming. Towards the end of the course we formed a rock band and played Smoke on the Water. They also acquired a range of technical vocabulary to support their band drumming. The most interesting part for some students was learning how to spin their sticks, a skill some of them are still mastering! Technical vocabulary: beat, fill, flam, paradiddle, grove, funk… Let’s hear from the group: Jasmine Azahari in Y11 states that “the best part about Drum Club is that its fun and very creative”. Lim Wei Han also in Y11 adds that “drumming is addictive; once you try drums it’s hard to put those sticks down”. Peter Westerink in Y8 mentions that “I love to bring my electric guitar along and rock out with the drums” and Ivory Lim and Angeline Leong add that “it’s very noisy, and noise is good for the ears!. |
