In Lens Based Media, students use camera’s to express them selves. We have done a number of projects and this term we focused more on stop start animation using different styles like plasticine, white board, real life and paper cut out. We took pictures of different frames and edited them in Windows Live Movie Maker.

Our Theme for our animations is Respecting Differences. We took this idea from the school mission. Everyone’s animation is about respecting different people. We will be doing an assembly on the subject soon showing our animations.

Different Styles:

1.Plasticine- Students used plasticine to model characters and settings. They then move each with a tiny movement and they snap it. On Windows Live Movie Maker they edit the picture and add music or dialogue. When they are complete, it looks like an ordinary cartoon show.

2.White Board- The students that chose to do white board style drew on a white board using a marker, then took a picture. Then they would change it a bit and take another picture. After finishing taking pictures they add all the pictures to Windows Live Movie Maker and then edit the pictures and chose which order to keep the picture in. Once it is done it should look like a cartoon.

3.Real Life- Students took pictures of other students,teachers and staff to show all the different sizes, appearence and skin colour. After taking about 200 pictures, they import the pictures to Windows Live Movie Maker and joined them an made them about 0.20-0.30 frames per second. We got the idea of this from a local malay artist named Ahmed Fuad Osman.

4.Cut Out Paper- The students took different coloured paper and cut it out to the shapes and sizes that they wanted. Then they made a story out of it, by taking pictures every time they insignificatly moved the paper. Once they were done they like the rest of the styles they added all the pictures to Windows Live Movie Maker and edited the pictures so it seems like the paper pictures were actually moving.
