International Day

On the 22nd of March MIGS celebrated International Day as a school-wide activity. It was special this year because we had our first fashion show involving the Juniors, Seniors and teachers. It was an opportunity for our students to showcase their unique, traditional costumes. MIGS has a cultural diversity coming from 40 different countries.
The day started as all students and teachers assembled at the grandstand immediately after registration. The Year 11s organised and hosted the event. The Receptions were the first to take the spotlight, and received much applause and encouragement from the audience. There were a great number of Juniors also participating, as well as a few Seniors. They cat walked to lively music which kept the students upbeat. Some of the most attractive costumes were the Arab, Balinese and the Korean Hanbok. The female Balinese costume consisted of brocaded sarong and top, as well as a glittering head gear. Klarissa walked elegantly. Another participant Yousef, who was hilarious, waved his sword around.
Sunny of year 10 wore an elegant Hanbok. Her hair was braided and neatly tucked. She walked with poise and grace in her flowing organza costume which was brown and pink. Hannah, Sarah and Yasheena wore the colourful, sequenced and embroidered lengha which wowed the audience. Confident Enisa walked like a professional model down the run way in her pink embroidered kebaya and batik sarong. Bilal joined the fashion show simply to entertain the audience.
Prize winners were:
•    Klarissa Witjaksono from Indonesia (Year 5) and Yousef Hamza Ali from Yemen (Year 2)
•    Sunny Cho from Korea (Year 10) and Bilal Rasool Khan from Pakistan (Year 11).
After that, international food was sold near the canteen by the Year 11s to raise funds for their prom night. Then we dispersed to go to classes.
This international Day seemed to bring us closer as a school by helping us to respect differences and cultures. We also got to see many different traditional outfits. All in all, it was an exciting and enjoyable day for everyone. Thanks to the Year 11s for the smooth running of the event.
