Junior School Curriculum:

   Welcome to the Junior School section of the MIGS website.  MIGS provides a holistic broad based curriculum.

   The underlying philosophy is that when our pupils enjoy school, they will be self-motivated, progress faster and achieve

   their full potential.

 

   At the end of Key Stages 1 and 2 our pupils sit the Standard Assessment Tests (SATs).The end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6)

   test papers are marked in the United Kingdom. MIGS pupils are encouraged to sit the University of New South Wales

   (UNSW) assessment, to provide them with a global perspective of education.

 

   The Junior School is divided into the following:

   i)    Reception
   ii)   Key Phase 1 - Years 1 and 2 (Key Stage 1)
   iii)  Key Phase 2 - Years 3 and 4 (Key Stage 2)
   iv)  Key Phase 3 - Years 5 and 6 (Key Stage 2)

 

 

    

 

 

 

   Reception:

 

   MIGS accepts children from the age of four. At the end of the Reception year they are eligible to sit the Entrance Exam for Year 1.

 

   Our curriculum in the Reception class incorporates the best practices of the British National Curriculum and the

   Montessori approach of teaching young children. The development and progress of each and every child is tracked and

   monitored as a great deal of emphasis is placed on the individual.

 

   Pupils enjoy their experiences in this pre-school environment, which is well resourced and managed by experienced and

   qualified professionals. A wide range of opportunities, are created not only to nurture but also develop our children’s

   competencies in:

   ■  Mathematical Development
   ■  Creative Development
   ■  Physical Development

   Junior School - Key Stages 1 and 2

   Subject Based Curriculum:

 

   Literacy
   Our pupils develop their English Language skills through listening and speaking, reading, writing (fiction
   and non-fiction), handwriting and spelling as prescribed in the Literacy Strategy.

 

   Numeracy
   The National Numeracy Strategy is the basis of the teaching of Mathematics in the Junior School and we
   provide a broad and differentiated range of mathematical experience. Mental mathematical agility through
   the mental/oral sessions, the grasping of key concepts and their application are our priorities in the teaching
   of Numeracy at MIGS.

 
   Science

   Science is taught both in the lab and the respective classrooms. The science curriculum places an emphasis
   on investigations to enrich the pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the environment.

 
   Information Communication Technology (ICT)

   The Junior ICT suite is equipped with up-to-date technology with Multimedia provisions to encourage ICT integrated tasks

   linked to the curriculum.

 


 
 

   Languages:
   Our pupils have the opportunity to learn the rudiments of the following:
   ■ French
   ■ Mandarin
   ■ Bahasa Malaysia

   Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) / Citizenship:
   We regard PSHE and Citizenship as an essential element for the development of our pupils as responsible
   individuals.

 


 
 

   History / Geography:
 
   The skills taught in these two areas of the curriculum are incorporated into topics with both local and global
   content. This enables the pupils to get a comprehensive knowledge of the world in which they live.

   Physical Education:
 
   Physical Education is an integral part of the school curriculum and pupils have the opportunity to get involved
   in a variety of sport and fitness activities.
