Mutiara International Grammar School initially opened its doors to the first batch of 69 students and 16 teachers on the 8th January 1997. Mr Richard W. Yates, the then Headmaster of the school, in welcoming those assembled in the school hall, assured them that the school would strive to provide quality education which would be second to none in the country. The school was well equipped with Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories, a computer lab, an Art room, a small library, a basketball court and a spacious playing field.
Within a year the enrolment grew to more than 200 students, who came from more than 20 countries. Within five years the enrolment raise to almost 500 students from more than 40 countries, and staff strength of more than 40. Mutiara International Grammar School then began to screen those wanting to enrol in this school, looking for quality rather quantity.
The last few years have witnessed the addition of more science laboratories, a computer lab for the Junior School, a mini stadium, an expanded library, a resource room an additional Art studio and many more classrooms.Today, Mutiara International Grammar School can lay claim to being a well-established and fully equipped institution of learning, providing a quality education.
